The Spanish Presidency of the EU (first semester 2010) made the reduction of health inequalities a priority. For this aim, and in parallel with a process initiated by the European Commission, a report and draft recommendations have been prepared by the Spanish presidency. This should lead to Conclusions that will be voted by the Council of Ministries of Health of the EU in June 2010. One of these recommendations concerns universal access to health care for children and pregnant women irrespective of their residence status. These recommendations will be discussed during a Ministerial Panel of 21-22 April 2010 and the informal meeting of ministers of health on 23rd of April. The HUMA Network addressed a position paper to the participants of the meeting, urging all Member States to support the Spanish Presidency’s draft conclusion on universal access to health care for children and pregnant women.
