MdM Netherlands - Dokters van de Wereld
Médecins du Monde Netherlands started the MEDOC (Mobile medical documents) project in 2005. The project aims to improve the access to healthcare for undocumented migrants.
One of the focus points is informing undocumented patients about their right to necessary medical care and the Dutch health system, through group sessions and a telephone Helpline. Health professionals are being trained to give care to undocumented patients. MEDOC’s (mobile medical documents) are being distributed by medical volunteers in weekly individual consultation sessions in 4 large cities.
For patients encountering barriers in the access to healthcare, the MEDOC project tries to conciliate on individual level, in order to achieve the requested care. Through collecting testimonies on individual cases and reporting quantitative data around incidents, MdM Netherlands raises awareness among the Dutch public and influences policy makers.
