Médecins du Monde UK was opened in January 2006 and has three key objectives:
- To offer advice and practical assistance to help people access National Health Service and other relevant services whenever possible.
- To document the number, health and needs of those who have difficulty accessing healthcare and use this information to advocate for better health provision for these groups.
- To offer some acute medical care, when needed, to those presenting themself to the project until they reach mainstream services.
The target groups are the followings:
- Vulnerable migrants – Including refugees, asylum seekers and undocumented migrants.
- Rough sleepers – ‘Hidden’ homeless who live in extremely vulnerable conditions and who often experience drug/alcohol addiction and mental health problems.
- Street sex workers – Women who are socially vulnerable and may be experiencing drug problems or homelessness.
