PICUM, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants, organised the final conference of its project on “Undocumented Children in Europe: Invisible Victims of Immigration Restrictions” on 22-23 January 2009 in Brussels.

Press release - Italy allows doctors to denounce their patients if they are undocumented migrants.

For Medicos del Mundo, access to healthcare is the fundamental right of everyone living in a State, regardless of their administrative situation. The organization considers such a decision a withdrawal of this fundamental right and notes that it is a growing trend in other European Union countries, with Greece and Germany having already put similar measures in place. The result is that public authorities are legally obliged to denounce undocumented migrants.

The HUMA network is currently looking for a Consultant to conduct a long term evaluation on its European advocacy project on health care access for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers.

A new law was passed by the Tuscan authorities in July which introduces a new, rights-based approach to undocumented migrants in the region, granting free access to health care.

From 15 July, failed asylum seekers will be entitled to the same health services as someone ordinarily resident in the UK.
