EU elections - Health Undocumented migrants Campaign

What commitments have taken candidates for European elections on the health of undocumented migrants in Europe?

For a universal right to health in Europe?

Between 5 and 8 million undocumented migrants live in the European Union, most often in precarious social conditions. This is the equivalent of the Austrian population. But on the whole, this population suffers from restrictions in access to care and prevention.

As part of the campaign for European elections, Médecins du Monde and the HUMA network have targeted 140 candidates, in 7 EU countries, asking them if they were prepared to support the principle of access care for all in Europe, including undocumented migrants and asylum seekers.

The purpose of this campaign ? Get a firm commitment from future members of the European Parliament in order to formulate standards to guarantee access to care and prevention for all people living in Europe, regardless of their legal status or origin.

The answers can be found on the HUMA network website(network for the health of undocumented persons and asylum seekers): www.huma-network.org.
This network is composed of associations from 11 European countries and claims for a right to universal and effective health care for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers in Europe. The HUMA network provides an analysis on its website of the laws of Member States of the European Union on access to care for undocumented migrants and asylum seekers.

For Médecins du Monde and the HUMA network, these political commitments are needed to defend a universal right to health. Europe can not let barriers persist for the full enjoyment of fundamental rights on its territory.
